Terms & Conditions
These terms and conditions form the basis on which I, Mark Reid, offer my services as a funeral celebrant and are between you (“the client”) and me (“Funeral Celebrant Mark”). By confirming your booking, you agree to the following terms.
My Services
-
I offer a personalised funeral ceremony. Each ceremony is written specifically for your loved one and is based on information provided by you.
-
An initial phone call/enquiry is used to establish if I am a suitable celebrant for your funeral and that I am available on the date of the funeral.
-
Together we will then chose a date on which we will meet to discuss your loved one. An agreement date of our first in person meeting is confirmation of a booking. The information I receive from this meeting will form the basis of writing a ceremony script.
-
You will receive an initial draft script to which you may request reasonable changes or edits. You are responsible for verifying the accuracy of names, dates and biographical details in the draft script. Once I have received your chosen changes I will then write a final draft. This final draft will be completed at least 48 hours before the service. I am responsible for sending a copy to the funeral directors.
-
On the day of the funeral I will meet you at the funeral home or crematorium and conduct the ceremony. At the end of the ceremony I will wait with you until you are ready to move onto the wake or post funeral gathering.
-
If a graveside burial has been agreed upon, I will travel independently to the cemetery and conduct this part of the ceremony.
Fees and Payment terms.
-
My current fee for a standard 20 minute crematorium ceremony is £250. The cost for a double slot is £375.
-
This fee covers all services stated in the ‘My Services’ portion of these terms and conditions.
-
A non-refundable booking payment of 50% of my fees to be paid once we have agreed on a date for our first in-person meeting to discuss your loved one.
-
The remaining 50% can be paid no later than 7 days after the completion of your ceremony.
Cancellations and Postponements.
-
My aim is to support you through a difficult time so I will always do my best to accommodate changes which may unexpectedly arise. If the ceremony has to be rescheduled or cancelled let me know as soon as possible.
-
In the unlikely event that I, the celebrant, have to cancel due to an unforeseen emergency or illness, I will make every effort to find a replacement celebrant. This replacement celebrant will be provided with the ceremony I have written which they will deliver on the day of the ceremony. If no replacement can be found you will be refunded any fees already paid.
-
In the case of a postponement for the funeral I will work to accommodate this change and providing I’m available, will continue to deliver the agreed ceremony. In this instance you, the client, must discuss alternative dates with me personally in order for me to honour your request.
-
If you decide to cancel your booking within 24 hours of our first in-person meeting, you will not be charged. For any cancelations after this you will still be liable for 50% of my fees.
-
I shall not be liable for any breach of contract due to Force Majeure.
Accuracy and approvals.
-
The client/family is responsible for verifying the accuracy of the names, dates and biographical details in the draft script. Final changes must be confirmed no later than 72 hours before the ceremony. Last minute changes may not be possible.
-
The client has responsibility for readings, music and the speakers.
-
I am not liable for the behaviour of any of the participants/guests attending the ceremony.
-
I reserve the right to refuse requests that may be discriminatory, unlawful or inappropriate within a funeral service.
Recording and use of materials.
-
The ceremony script remains the intellectual property of the celebrant but may be used by the client for personal remembrance.
-
I will not publish photos or details from the ceremony without the client’s permission.
-
If you kindly provide a testimonial, I may display this on my website or on printed materials with your permission.
Confidentiality.
-
All the personal information you provide for the ceremony content will be treated as confidential. I will never disclose any details to third parties except individuals, such as Funeral Directors or the Crematorium, involved in the preparation and delivery of your ceremony.
Professional Standards.
-
I am fully GDPR compliant, please see my privacy policy for more details.
-
I am a member of the ‘Celebrant Circle’ and adhere to their code of conduct and am fully insured through Balens Insurance Brokers. I am, however, in no way responsible for the upkeep and safety of any venue where your funeral takes place; for example crematoriums and cemeteries.
-
I am committed to delivering every ceremony with empathy, respect and reliability.
